In July, 2016, my wife and I took possession of our custom home built by Steinorth Fine Homes. The home exceeded our expectations, in design and functionality; and the design and build process was a pleasure and in fact a great deal of fun. To give some background on me... I retired from a career in operations and engineering management. Over thirty years, I have worked with various contractors and sub-contractors, negotiating their respective contracts and overseeing their daily progress. I gained a lot of insight into what separates a good contractor from one that talks a great story, but doesn’t deliver. Prior to building our home, we attended a number or home shows here in Traverse City. A walked through a number of houses from various builders. We were trying to find builders that stood out in design and quality homes. There are a few to pick from. I also read the magazine “Fine Homebuilding”. I always got the annual issue on best designed homes of the year. A Steinorth home was reviewed in one of the issues. After reading the article, I remembered going through one of their houses. I remember being impressed with the little details and that it made use of every space. There is one other thing I haven’t mentioned in building our house. I wanted a design/build team. I had enough experience with contractors to know that I want one person to go to for the answers. I didn’t want to hire an architect to design the house and then have to go bid the plans out to contractors. We interviewed other contractors, but we decided on Steinorth. They were the most pleasant and easiest to talk to. Anyone can build a house, but getting your ideas across to the builder and continually communicating during the design and build process in essential for your satisfaction. Steinorth was great in all respects. Our house was finished on time and on budget. Through the process Steinorth Fine Homes worked with us with the design and then offered more efficient design “tweaks” to make our house more service less and energy efficient. I would recommend Steinorth Fine House Homes to anyone looking to build a custom or semicustom home. During my life, we have built three houses for ourselves and two for my mother. This was the most enjoyable build of all of them. Mark and Cal, and the entire Steinorth team, including their subs were fun to work with. The result was a beautiful and energy efficient home for us to retire in.
